The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) adopted a final rulemaking banning children’s toys and child care articles containing more than 0.1 percent of certain phthalate chemicals on October 18, 2017. The final rule amended the restriction of the phthalate chemicals from six to eight. The 8 specific phthalate chemicals being prohibited are:

di-n-pentyl phthalate (DPENP);

di-n-hexyl phthalate (DHEXP);

dicyclohexyl phthalate (DCHP);

diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP);

di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP);

dibutyl phthalate (DBP); or,

The new rule will be enforced beginning April 25, 2018. Toys entering the US market on and after that day will be regulated by the new policy.
